Banyuwangi is the eastern border of the Java Island, near the Bali Island. If you want to go to Bali with an early departure from Yogyakarta, Mount Bromo, or any other place in Java, then you'll stop in this Banyuwangi for transit, and taking ship transportation to crossing to Bali Island, and vice versa. One of the most famous tourist destinations in this area is Ijen Crater. In a previous article, I have a complete review of Ijen Crater, please check this article. Now I will discuss about some of the most popular culinary place around the Ijen Crater. I find a lot of interesting culinary places in this place, but they have incomplete information such as photos, address, telephone number, google map location, so i decided to pick 15 spots only.

    Singgasana's Grilled Fish Restaurant offers a refined menu of freshwater fish. Not much difference when compared with other similar restaurant, it's just that there is a very popular menu in this restaurant, steamed eels with banana leaves, use spices, herb, and fresh red pepper sauce as you see in the picture above. This menu is really tasty and spicy!

  • Rujak Soto Banyuwangi Rujak Soto Banyuwangi

    If you ever eat soto in Bali, Yogyakarta, Surabaya or elsewhere in Indonesia, this soto is really different. Soto at this place is a combination of two traditional menus at once! rujak + soto. As you can see in the picture above, the soup is looks more darker, and not as it looks like soto in general that are looks clear. With sliced beef offal as its main flagship, makes this menu is truly unique and must be tried for you extreme food fans!

    Rawon is one of Indonesian signature dish. Almost same with Soto soup, but it feels more salty and savory, and not too much oil as well. Soto generally use chicken as basic ingredients, but rawon only use beef as the main ingredient. This dish is very good to eat during the lunch time, mixed with fresh sprouts and a spicy chili sauce.

Then, fry it until this egg hardens and looks like layered and wrappeed all fish body. And last, doing pressure cooked. Mmm.. of course you don't have to bother making this food in the hotel! because you can simply try it at this Panorama's Restaurant. This pressure cook makes the fish feels more soft texture even any bones become soft and you can eat them!

    Ratinem's Spicy Chicken serves chicken legs with curry and spicy sauce as main menu. Maybe some of you, will thinking that this menu is really weird and disgusting. however, hold your word for a second and try it first!. Trust me.. this food was really amazing!. The spicy curry sauce seeped into every part of the skin on the chicken legs. chewy and spicy!

  • Soto Ayam Kota Soto Ayam Kota's 'S.A.K Soup' Chicken Soup

    Soto Ayam Kota's "S.A.K Soup" Chicken Soup who Kapten Pierre Tendean Street could be one of your culinary alternative when visiting Banyuwangi. The taste is really typical Eastern Java style. This soup also used "Koya" as an additional topping ingredients. A bit salty but delicious! The chicken pieces were tender and slightly salty make this soup was absolutely perfect for your lunch time!

    Salim's beef soup served soup or soto with veal tongue as a mainstay menu!. This dishes are very rare in Indonesia. But you can try it at Salim's Soup Stall. Tastes absolutely delicious!, and if you visit banyuwangi or Ijen crater, don't miss this one because it is very rare!

  • Warung Biru Stall Warung Biru's Stall

    If you are a lover of grilled fish and shrimp, Warung Biru's Stall is the right choice for you. The herb sauce that's used during the grill process is completely absorbed into the fish. And the special things from this place is classic atmosphere and the homey really makes me feels good. The fried shrimp are also special, very crispy outside and well cooked inside, and the shrimp size served in this stalls is really big enough!

  • Tempong Rice Tempong Rice

    I can only say one word for this one, simple and homey! nothing too special, but also not too disappointing. You will be presented the dish with fried tofu, tempeh, chicken, and rice in one plate. The fresh tomato sauce make this menu is not too bad to try, fair enough and fun!

  • Bagiak Biscuits Bagiak Biscuits

    This food called Bagiak, it feels almost like biscuits for babies. Sweet, soft and milky. These foods have never found anywhere else in Indonesia, only in Banyuwangi i think. There are some flavors, such as ginger flavor, and beans. Apparently these foods can also be stored in a relatively long time, considering this is a dry food.

  • Kupat Lodoh Kupat Lodoh

    This kupat lodoh much like chicken curry is usually served when the Eid Mubarak season in Indonesia, but the sauce is more dense and viscous, and the sauce is reddish color. For curry lovers this dishes is very recommended, or if you just miss the atmosphere of Eid Mubarak, you could try this one!

    If you crave a meal in the rustic atmosphere, simple menus, and views of the green rice fields and also breezy. This place can be a good choice. Not only a great place, but the menu offered was tasty and rarely found in other places around. The mainstay menu is the dry fried eel with signature village style sauce, interesting!
